Shape Up Meal Prep
I’ve worked with Shape Up Meal Prep since 2018. What started as orders over text messages is now an online system handling 80–90 orders a week, with reports that help the team prepare and deliver them.
The ordering experience
A single place to choose meals, check delivery availability and manage an account.
Starting with a manual process
When we started working together in 2018, Shape Up Meal Prep had no website. The business received roughly 10 to 15 orders each week by text message, with meal quantities, label requirements, delivery details and new-customer information all organised manually.
I built the first website and online ordering form, with order receipts emailed to the business. Across three major revisions, that starting point has grown into an application with customer accounts, a cart, order history and subscriptions.
Compare ready-made meals
Photos, pricing and nutrition make choosing a meal easier.
Build a custom meal
Choose a protein, carbohydrate and side, then set the quantity.
More time for the business, less order administration
The owner has more time for marketing, while staff focus on preparing and checking meals. Weekly reports compile meal quantities, labels to print, delivery details and new-customer information. The business reports fewer mistakes.
| Before | Now |
|---|---|
| Orders collected through text messages | Customers place their orders online |
| Meal quantities and delivery details collated manually | Weekly reports organise meal preparation and delivery |
| Owner occupied with order administration | More time available for marketing |
Helping the business bring in more orders
Alongside making the weekly workload easier, I’ve been working with the owner on ways to bring in more orders. Two recent additions help new customers get started and follow up with people who leave before paying.
A first-order offer for new customers
I added a 20% first-order offer for new customers who create an account. Eligibility takes previous guest orders into account too, so someone who has already ordered can’t claim the discount just by signing up.
Dozens of people have signed up through the offer so far. That’s account registrations, not completed orders.
Following up on unfinished checkouts
Some customers get as far as the payment screen and leave without finishing their order. I built an automatic follow-up to give them a reason to come back.
- After 1 hour
- A reminder to finish their order.
- After 24 hours
- A special offer if they still haven’t placed an order.
Within a week, we saw a customer come back and complete an order through this follow-up. It’s still early, but it’s already helped recover an order.
Continuing to improve
These are the kinds of improvements I continue to make with Shape Up. I maintain the site and work with the owner to find what would help next, whether that’s less admin, a new promotion or a change to the ordering experience.
We’ve been working together since 2018, and the site has kept changing as the business has grown.
